The NESPA Government Affairs Committee is pleased to share some great news. Governor Hochul has announced a delay of New York’s All-Electric Building law that was scheduled to take effect next year. This development is not only a positive step for our industry, it’s also a clear reflection of the power of organized, consistent advocacy.
The All-Electric Building law would have effectively prohibited new natural gas installations in many types of buildings. For our industry, that would have meant significant limitations on gas-powered pool and spa heaters—equipment that many customers rely on for efficiency, performance, and affordability. Without a delay, homeowners and businesses would have faced higher operating costs, fewer practical options, and potential project delays or cancellations. It would also have placed unnecessary pressure on our contractors and retailers who are already navigating tight timelines and rising equipment costs.
The Northeast Spa and Pool Association has been actively engaged with lawmakers and key decision-makers throughout this process, making sure they fully understood these real impacts. This delay is a testament to the voices of our members and our strong access to New York government. When we show up, speak clearly, and present real-world implications, it truly makes a difference.
Our collective efforts ensured that policymakers took the time to reassess the timeline and consider the needs of the industries affected. We should take pride in the role we played. Our advocacy helped shape this outcome and ensured our members’ perspectives were heard at the highest levels.
Thank you to all our members who lent their voices to this work. This result reinforces just how important it is that we stay engaged, unified, and proactive as New York continues to debate major energy and building policy changes.
More updates to come as things develop, but for now, this is an important win worth celebrating. Please feel free to contact NESPA with any questions at 609-689-9111
