Connecticut: Codes, Standards & Regulations

The following Building, Fire Safety and Fire Prevention Codes will be in effect as of October 1, 2022.  This adoption includes the 2021 International Swimming Pool & Spa Code.

The new state codes will be known as the:

The 2022 SBC adopts the following model codes:

  • 2021 International Building Code (IBC) by the ICC
  • 2021 International Existing Building Code (IEBC) by the ICC
  • 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) by the ICC
  • 2021 International Mechanical Code (IMC) by the ICC
  • 2021 International Plumbing Code (IPC) by the ICC
  • 2021 International Residential Code (IRC) by the ICC
  • 2021 International Swimming Pool & Spa Code (ISPSC) by the ICC
  • 2020 NFPA 70 National Electrical Code (NEC) by NFPA
  • 2017 ICC A117.1 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities by the ICC

State Fire Safety Code:

  • 2021 International Fire Code (IFC) by the ICC
  • 2021 NFPA 101 - Life Safety Code by the NFPA
  • 2021 NFPA 1 - Fire Code by the NFPA

State Fire Prevention Code:

  • 2015 NFPA 1

Swimming Pool Wastewater Discharge - Public Swimming Pools

The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (CT DEP) has issued a General Permit for the Discharge of Swimming Pool Wastewater. This General Permit regulates swimming pool wastewaters from both public and private residential pools. Any person who wishes to initiate, create, originate or maintain a discharge of swimming pool wastewater generated by a public pool must file a registration with the CT DEP. Additionally, any person in the business of cleaning, draining or maintaining multiple public or private residential pools shall file a Contractor Registration Form with the CT DEP and shall be licensed by the Department of Consumer Protection.
