As part of NESPA’s ongoing commitment to water safety and drowning prevention, we’re proud to spotlight NESPA Past President, Kyle Chaikin's participation in the Suffolk County Drowning Prevention Alliance's Roundtable. This group discussion brought together experts, advocates, families, and officials, all with the shared goal of preventing drownings in Suffolk County, New York.
New York State ranks fourth in the nation for drowning deaths, and in Suffolk County, drowning fatalities increased by 60 percent from 2023 to 2024. (reported via sbmatters.stonybrook.edu)
The roundtable was a powerful gathering of individuals united by a shared mission to prevent drowning and promote water safety. Chaikin reported encouraging progress and inspiring collaborations from the group who seeks to launch the first-ever Suffolk County Drowning Prevention Action Plan.
Chaikin attended the roundtable as a representative of Azureon, Chaikin Ultimate Group, LIPSA, NESPA, PHTA, and Step Into Swim.
Participants included representatives from Stony Brook Medicine, Stop Drowning Now USA, the Long Island Drowning Prevention Task Force, US Swim School Association, Aquafinz Infant Aquatics, The Zac Foundation, Suffolk County Police & EMS, as well as state and local leaders, school officials, and emergency personnel from various municipalities.
