Amy M. Rullo
Scott Payne Custom Pools LLC

What was your first industry job?
I answered the phones and invoiced for bulk chlorine/chemical deliveries for Commercial Pools at a local family pool service and supply company in Worcester, PA.  I worked alongside my Dad, Jim Berardelli, and was able to bring my boys to work each day vs. being on the road in Corporate America each day.

How has being a part of NESPA impacted your career?
Immensely. This is the best professional opportunity that I've been offered.  I have met many amazing Pool Professionals and have expanded my knowledge of the industry and grown as a female Pool Professional.

What is your favorite pool project that you have worked on, and why?
A few years ago, I was part of a project at our local Zoo, Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown, PA.  We added water features and a pump room to a new exhibit called  the "Trail of the Jaguar." It's in my hometown.  I grew up going there with my family and have taken my boys through the years.  Many of my family and friends have visited there, and tons of locals and daily visitors to the facility.

What are the key skills or traits a person needs to be successful in our industry?

Patience, the willingness to learn & listen and know there are multiple solutions to problems. Know your products & treat your customers and vendors with respect.

Tell us about your favorite Pool & Spa Show memory?
THIS IS EASY!  As the 2020 Show Chair, I had the chance to host the Show Chairwoman's Cocktail Reception as well as participate in so many other events.  From the Volunteer Reception in my suite, the Ribbon Cutting, the Opening Party Toast to handing out awards on the Show Floor, each moment was memorable, and I am thankful for my NESPA Family.

Who inspires you?
My children, they have taught me unconditional love, patience, how to be the best Mom I can be (even on bad days), and that it's OK not to be perfect. Just get back up and try again. They are truly my world.  Being a BOY Mom is rewarding!

What's one thing - either industry-related or not - you learned in the last month?

WOW...that is a tough one!  I think we all have learned a lot since March.  In the past few months, I have learned how to pivot quickly at work and home. Focus and solve the problem ahead of you and if you don't succeed, try again. It'll be OK!  I also learned FAMILY is everything, and being home isn't so bad.

If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?  I am not sure I have a favorite food!  I like lots of things, BUT my Mom's Pizza, Gravy & Meatballs, or Beef Stew on a cold day make me smile.  However, Banana Cream Pie or Chocolate makes me happy too :)
