Suspension of New Gas Permits in New York Area

TO: Members In Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and West Chester County

RE: Suspension of new gas permits in your area

National Grid, a significant provider of Natural Gas to Long Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and West Chester County, has recently issued a statement that they will not process any new natural gas permits until they receive the necessary approvals from the State of New York for their proposed new pipeline to expand their service.  This action could have a potential impact on NESPA members in those areas that sell and install pool heaters that utilize natural gas and require new or upgraded service.  If you are not adding new service of installing a new meter, this issue should not affect your installation.  Your customers may be asked to complete a residential gas agreement that indicates that no upgrade to service is needed for the project to be completed.

NESPA organized a meeting between manufacturers of pool heaters, association leaders in the region, as well as our member distributors to make sure they were all aware of the issue and how it could affect your business.  NESPA members who install natural gas pool heaters should talk to their distributors and manufacturers representatives to better understand the issue and how they will address it to support you, your business and the industry.
