What is NESPA, APSP Affiliate?
NESPA is the Northeast Affiliate of the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) formerly known as NSPI, a worldwide professional trade association. NESPA, founded in 1958, represents the pool and spa industry in the Northeast and serves APSP members through education, promotion and representation. NESPA consist of five chapters, Capital, CONSPA, Long Island, Metro NY-NJ and PennJersey. Members include service companies, builders/installer, distributors, retail stores, manufacturer's agents, manufacturers, independent pool and spa service companies and sub-contractors.

What's the difference between APSP and NESPA, APSP Affiliate?
NESPA, APSP Affiliate membership is local, covering NJ, NY, PA and CT. All membership dues and programs are done locally. NESPA, APSP Affiliate is responsible for all swimming pool & spa/hot tub issues, questions and concerns regarding the industry.

What prerequisites are there to become a member of NESPA, APSP Affiliate?
The only prerequisite is that your company has to be in business and in good standing for at least one year.

What is the process of becoming a member?
NESPA, APSP Affiliate will send out a prospect kit to any requesting or inquiring company. Once we receive your application with payment we will place you in the proper chapter and forward a copy of your application to that chapter. Your chapter will inform you that they have received your application and give you an approximate date of when you can expect an approval. All approvals must take place 60 days form the receipt of the application. The chapter will review your application and at the next chapter board meeting will decide wither or not to approve you for membership. Once approved you will receive a Welcome Kit that will contain your NESPA identification card that will have your name, company ID number, website password and your current dues year. Also in the Welcome Kit there will be a logo sheet, NESPA, APSP Affiliate member sticker and many other useful member information.

Can non-members take part in NESPA, APSP Affiliate activities?
Yes and No. Yes, non-members can participate in our Professional Training Institute but must pay 50% more in class fees. Yes, non-members attend and exhibit at the Atlantic City Pool & Spa Show and must pay increased non-member fees for ticketed seminars.No, non-members can not participate in our Annual Design Awards Competition, Annual Golf Outing, scholarship programs and special chapter outings. Non-members will not be able to access our member only website section, post free job postings using our job web site www.pooltechnician.com.

As a member of NESPA, APSP Affiliate you can participate at special member discounted prices in our Education and Professional Development programs. We present a wide variety of educational opportunities that include seminars at the Atlantic City Pool & Spa Show, The Professional Training Institute which provides hands-on-training courses in our Morganville facility and APSP Certification courses. Some programs lead to the CSP (Certified Service Professional) and the CBP (Certified Building Professional), designations the participants can use to tell the work about their high level of professional competence.

Can I, as a consumer, call NESPA and request a referral for the best pool/spa service company or pool/spa builder in my area?
NESPA cannot single out a service company or builder in your area as the best. What we can do, however, is provide you with a list of all service and builders in your area. They will all be NESPA, APSP Affiliate members which insures that you will get quality no matter which company you choose.

Have a problem or complaint with a member company?
What actions you can take.
If you have not yet secured an attorney, you may present your complaint to the ethics committee in one of our 5 chapters. They will assess the complaint and follow-up with suggested actions. If you do not know which chapter the company belongs to, simply call the NESPA office at 732-972-9111. You must give your name and basic contact information, the company in question and a brief explanation of the problem. We will then contact the chapter and they will contact you.
