October 2015 President's Message

Change is in the air!

September was unusually warm and great for business but October has brought change in the form of cooler weather and beautiful fall foliage. For many of us our focus changes to closing pools and racing to get as much pool construction and renovation completed as possible before winter sets in.

CONSPA is going through some changes as well with the elections of new officers.

It’s my honor to have been elected Chapter President for 2015- 2016

I want to thank Bob Russell our Immediate Past President for a great 2013 -2015 term.

Congratulations on your accomplishments Bob! I am excited to work with our new Vice President Ray Rescildo, Lynn Spaulding Treasurer and our new Secretary Brian Jacobson. Our Board of Directors is made up of some really amazing people, all of who have been friends, mentors, and inspirations for me. Pat McDougall of Newtown Pools LLC was recently elected to the board and I know he will be a great asset to CONSPA.

Fund Raising Event: The CONSPA’s golf outing was held on September 2nd at the Traditions Golf Course in Wallingford: I would like to thank our social committee headed by Mike Giannamore with lots of help from Holy Kulowski and Brian Jacobson. A great time was had by all, especially Justine Ivey of Blue Wave Pool Service who won a cruise vacation to Hawaii. Best of all we raised seven thousand dollars for Children of Fallen Patriots with 100% of the money going to pay for scholarships for children of parents who lost their lives while defending our freedom. Thanks to all the golfers and sponsors for their support!

Up Coming:

This is the time of year we begin our series of CONSPA, NESPA and APSP educational programs. Please take advantage of all we have to offer, including the 2016 Pool & Spa Show powered by Northeast Spa & Pool Association, January 26-28 in Atlantic City.

Continuing Education: State of Connecticut continuing education for license holders will be held on October 27 for Pool Builders and the 28th for SP2’s in Southbury.  Please note that Builders must attend annually and SP1s will need to fulfill their requirement in 2016. This is important for your business, don’t forget to attend.

Monthly Meeting: October Dinner Program: “Meet the Inspectors Night” 10/27 Heritage Hotel Southbury, CT. Head Building Official, Joseph Cassidy and NESPA’s code expert

Paulette Pitrak will be answering the tough questions CT pool professionals are asking right now! We always have a big crowd for this event, so sign up early.

Looking to Get Licensed?  There will be several opportunities to attend APSP “Certified Maintenance Specialist (CMS) courses between November and March. CMS is one of the requirements to apply for SP-2 state test.

For additional information regarding CONSPA & NESPA educational programs and our calendar of events please visit our web site at http://www.nespapool.org

As always you can contact our attentive Chapter Administrator, Lynda Bardos if you have questions or need additional information at 860-819-0374

February 2015 President's Message

 Bob Russell, CONSPA President

Time to catch up on some news:

  • It’s mid-February and it’s COLD! According to extended forecasts it’s going to stay cold until the end of February! I’m going out on a limb and predicting- a warming trend in early March with gentle rain to wash the snow away quickly so we can get to work! Can I get an “amen?”

  • The weather isn’t stopping our monthly membership meetings and we have some hot topics you won’t want to miss! We’re bringing back our “Mastering Your Marketplace” series. This is a terrific venue for your sales, installation and service people- we’ve kept the venue small to maximize good quality exchange and we’ve kept registration low for CONSPA members so you can send multiple employees. Be sure to sign up early as these meetings are popular and fill up fast. Look for the “Mastering Your Marketplace”  flyer e-mails.

  • These meetings will feature the latest technologies that the marketplace is demanding. We are also rotating the venue location to give everyone an opportunity to get out on a Tuesday night. Presenters will be: Hayward in February; Zodiac (Jandy) in March and Pentair in April.

  • 2nd Annual reception for CONSPA members at Top Of The Trop in Atlantic City.  It was great seeing many of you there, we hope you had great time! We did! If you are attending one of our meetings we’d love to hear your feedback

Reminder: Get Licensed Now!  For more information, please visit our web site. Please also check out the event and training schedules on the NESPA and CONSPA web sites you will find some terrific opportunities to choose from.

Thank you for reading!
Stay safe out there!

All the best!

December 2014 Message

Bob Russell, CONSPA President

On behalf of the CONSPA board, we’d like to thank our members for a terrific year.

May you, your families and your businesses be richly blessed this holiday season and throughout 2015!

As this is the last month of the year, I’m including some news, important events fast approaching in 2015, and a brief 2014 report.

News and CONSPA meeting schedule for 2015:

  • Toys For TotsThe CONSPA board is made up of some of the most wonderful and generous people I’ve had the pleasure to work with!

In November, our board approved monies from the, “Good Will Fund” towards the purchase of toys for children of needy families in Connecticut. Two angels- Holly Kulowski, a long-time board member and past president, and her son went shopping and purchased a table full of toys! (see picture).

Representatives from The Marine Corps picked up their stash and is delivering it all to homes in Connecticut where the holidays will be just a bit more fun this year! Love it! J

November 2014 Message

Bob Russell, CONSPA President

It seems it was many years ago when November was viewed as, “…the end of the busy season.”

In today’s fast-paced business world November now seems to signal the beginning of business planning and training for next year. This is where we are focused this time of year as well.

If you scan the event and training schedules on the NESPA and CONSPA web sites you will find some terrific opportunities to choose from.

Hopefully between now and next March you will all find the time to rest and enjoy the fruits of your hard labors.

Since we’re all busy I’ll stick to a bullet-point briefing and add one or two thoughts and announcements at the end.
